“A different language is a different vision of life.”
– Federico Fellini
I already knew the Spanish language due to my Hispanic Roots but I wanted to dive into a new culture from the other side of the world. From that moment, I knew that learning the Chinese Language was the answer to my curiosity.
Chinese I
CHI 1130
This was my first glimpse into the Chinese Language. We learned simple phrases and how each of the four tones were to be pronounced. I got introduced into how to write simple characters and that they had to be in special stroke order.
Chinese II
CHI 1131
In this course, we developed our Chinese to a greater extent. We minimally spoke English in the class always trying to use Mandarin most of the time. My knowledge of characters grew learning about 10 new characters and their pronunciations per week.
Interm Chinese
CHI 2200
The purpose of Chinese 3, was to develop my reading Chinese Skills. I was taught complex sentences as well as their sentence structure. Furthermore, I had to complete a final project on the reasons why I thought learning Chinese was essential. (video below).
Conversational Chinese
CHI 3400
Conversational Chinese was the last course I have taken so far in my Chinese language journey. We learned how to put the language in different situations such as daily activities and negotiations. We saw the culture plays a huge part in how the language was developed.
