On-Campus Leadership
Partaking in On-Campus activities and organizations is a way to learn outside of the classroom. The decisions I made, in the leadership positions I had, shaped me into the person I am today.
Student Government Association (SGA)
This past year, I have had the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association (SGA). The job of SGA is to find out what students want to change in our university and advocate for these students. I had the opportunity to take lead on the FIU Day event we had on campus (pictured below). We worked with students in order to get the word out to our legislators on advocating for FIU. It showed me the true impact that a group of student leaders can have in our government.
Sigma Iota Rho
Sigma Iota Rho is the International Relations Honor Society on campus. I was an officially inducted member in Fall 2019. This society has aided to my learning experience outside of the classroom, in which I could discuss with my classmates' current international issues as well as hear from professionals in the field I want to partake in. It is a great opportunity to hear opinions from the other members that could help me view international issues in a new way. Being part of this society, opened the doors for me to see that there are so many realms that could lead to a career in International Relations.
Panthers Around the World (PAWS)
Panthers Around the World (PAWS) enabled me to become a global representative for FIU. We would be the first in line to interact with International students coming for an Exchange or Study Abroad. Each representative would be paired with a Foreign Exchange Student in order to aid their transition into FIU and Miami life. My partner was from France and was studying International Relations as well. She and I became good friends and we attended several events throughout Miami together. I was able to show her the Hispanic culture and she would show me her french culture. I had never been to France and only knew minimal french, so it was interesting to see a new perspective.
International Business Honor Society (IBHS)
The International Business Honor Society (IBHS) has a special place in my heart. It is where I met some of my best friends and really saw how we can change the world, one step at a time. I had the opportunity to be first the Fundraising Director and then I transitioned into the Secretary position. As the Fundraising Director, I managed a team that we worked towards raising funds for the Bandhwari Women's Project (learn more in the service tab). As the Secretary, I would keep an account of the organization of the society including point tracking of members, composing meeting minutes, and being the representative for the society in front of the Council for Student Organizations (CSO). Being on the Executive Board (pictured below) provided me with the Foundation to become a true leader internally and externally.
Student Programming Council (SPC)
The Student Programming Council is the main organization for creating events for students on campus. I was part of the Pop-Up events committee. I had the opportunity to plan my own event for the FIU community (pictured below). It was a FRIENDS themed event in collaboration with several departments and organizations on campus so students can learn about other resources and get ready for finals. Over 400 students attended the even. Planning and executing the event enabled me to become a stronger leader. I had to be prepared for anything that could go wrong as well as managing a team. I was able to access my networking skills by speaking to different vendors to make sure we were getting the best for our students.
